(1879-1950 CE) One of the spiritual luminaries of last century. He was born in Tirucculi in Tamil Nadu as the second son of Sundaram Iyar and Alagammal. He left home at very early age for a spiritual life and had intese tapas on several caves in the Arunachala hill. Ganapati Muni, a later disciple and an eminent Sanskrit scholer discovered the spiritual intensity in the young men and declared it to the world. He became a wonder in the world with Paul Brunton and Arthur Osborne writing about him and eminent persons like Dr Radhakrishnan visiting him. But Ramana Maharshi was unperturbed by the reputed visitors, he talked to the minimum extend possible and lived in bare minimum dress.

Ramana Maharshi wrote many poems in Tamil and Sanskrit. His most famous work is Ulladu Narpadu, a Tamil poetry. Sri Arunachala Aksaramana Malai is a 108 verse hymn in praise of Siva.
